Berlin based Jamaican-German R&B/neo-soul artist Novine on her latest EP “Daydreaming”

Being inspired by Prince and Sade, and her music being influenced by Bob Marley and Buju Banton. Songs about encouraging others to believe in love and losing people close to you. Creating the art that is the most authentic to you and more.

Fuzzer: Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some of our questions! First of all, we'd love to know about your musical journey from when you started singing and making music?

Novine: I grew up with a lot of music around me. Both of my parents, especially my dad, are music lovers. They always had music playing around the house, whether it was on the radio or something they played from their own collection. My dad has been collecting vinyls for a long time. He would always, either in his lunch breaks or after work in the evenings, listen to a lot of music from a lot of different genres. I‘ve always been passionate about music and knew early on that I wanted to become a singer and artist. It‘s been a dream of mine since I was very young. So I decided to take singing lessons when I was 12 and later studied music at university.

Fuzzer: Amazing! Where are you from, and where are you based now?

Novine: I was born and raised in Heidelberg, Germany. My mother is Jamaican and my father German. I’m now based in Berlin.

Fuzzer: Who were your main musical and creative influences growing up?

Novine: I‘m a huge fan of Prince and Sade. Their music and artistry inspires me a lot. Because of my Jamaican roots, I grew up listening to a lot of Reggae and Dancehall artists like Bob Marley or Buju Banton as well. Naturally, that has also influenced my sound in different ways.

Fuzzer: Incredible! And congrats on the release of your latest EP "Daydreaming"! Can you tell us how you landed on the name for this project?

Novine: I was trying to find a name that would capture the essence of the project for a while. Overall, most of the songs are very warm, sensual and filled with love. It made me feel like I was daydreaming and drifting away to beautiful memories.

Fuzzer: Stunning - and one of our favourite songs of yours is of "Hold On"! Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind this track?

Novine: “Hold On” is about someone who has had their heart and trust broken before and doesn’t believe in love anymore. You're trying to break down those walls and show them that you're the person that they can trust and that they shouldn’t give up and keep holding on to love.

Fuzzer: Plus we also absolutely love "Thinking About You"! What was one of your main highlights working on this one?

Novine: I love the acoustic and stripped down vibe of the song. It makes you focus a lot more on the vocals and story instead of the production. It is a very vulnerable song about losing someone close to you but always keeping them in your mind and heart.

Fuzzer: What music are you listening to at the moment and are there any new artists/songs you would recommend we listen to?

Novine: Currently I’ve been listening to Kendrick Lamar’s new album. On other days it depends on my mood but I love going back to classics like Marvin Gaye or Anita Baker. I also really love listening to Lianne La Havas.

Fuzzer: Great picks! What's one of the best pieces of advice or lessons you've learnt across your career so far?

Novine: Stay true to yourself and create the art that is the most authentic to who you are and the right people will hear it.

Fuzzer: Last question! What have you got planned for 2025?

Novine: I’m currently working on new music. Planning to release a lot again next year and playing a lot of shows!

Thanks Novine! Make sure to keep up with her on Instagram, TikTok, Spotify & Apple Music.
